The Silverbridge takes its name from the Trollopian constituency in The Duke’s Children, a place of English political theatre and autumn countryside. A wingback of quiet authority, it is built for a library or a study where decisions are made.

It is the most expensive chair in the collection and very nearly the tallest, at 110cm. The back is tall and straight, the wings are deep and squared, and the arms are substantial without being showy. The whole thing is built to be sat in for a long time.

Between the three big wingbacks, this is the one that reads as serious. The Knollsea is relaxed and the Sotherton is grand; the Silverbridge is a working chair for a study, and its deep squared wings give more privacy from the room than either.

Deep wings create real shadow, which flatters velvet above everything else. Heavy wools, herringbones and library-appropriate textures suit it equally. It is not a chair that wants a light or summery fabric.
