Named after the great house in Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey, the Norrington brings cathedral-cool composure to any interior. Its tall back and careful detailing reward a fabric that can hold its own — a bold botanical or a restrained herringbone.

The detailing is what separates it from the plainer chairs at this end of the range: a well-defined tight back, arms with a clean turned-out roll, and a frame that holds a crisp line where others soften. At 91 × 73 × 83cm the proportions are close to ideal for a single sitting-room chair — tall enough to support, not so wide it demands its own corner.

It is a chair that suits being taken seriously. Put it where it will be looked at rather than where it will be hidden.

Because the panels are clean and well-defined, this is one of the few chairs here that flatters both extremes: a large botanical print reads properly across the back, and a fine herringbone or plain shows off the tailoring. Middling small patterns do it the fewest favours.
