The Lulwind takes its name from the Dorset cove in Hardy’s Far from the Madding Crowd, wild and beautiful and a little hidden. This compact occasional chair has that same quality of discovery — a piece you wonder how you managed without.

The back is buttoned and rounded, curving forward at the sides to meet low arms, and the whole thing sits on oak legs. It is softer and rounder than the Netherfield, which shares its dimensions almost exactly but reads as a much more angular chair — a useful comparison if you are choosing between the two.

At 90 × 72 × 83cm it is a genuinely everyday size: big enough to be comfortable for an evening, small enough not to be the first thing you see when you walk in.

Buttoning and curves both want fabric that will give a little. Boucles, wools and textured weaves suit it best; a velvet emphasises the buttoning. Stiff or heavily structured cloths resist the curve and are better on the squarer chairs here.
