A bespoke armchair from Occasional Chairs takes around 10–12 weeks from order to delivery. That is longer than buying from stock, because your chair does not exist until you order it.

What happens during those 10–12 weeks?

  1. You choose your chair and fabric. Browse the chair gallery and order free fabric samples so you can see the fabrics at home.
  2. We confirm the details. We go through the chair, fabric and price with you before anything is made.
  3. Your fabric is sourced and cut. The fabric you chose is sourced for your order and cut to pattern.
  4. Your chair is built by hand. It is made up by skilled upholsterers at our workshop in Nottingham, the traditional heartland of British upholstery.
  5. Delivery. Your finished chair is delivered to you.

Why is a made-to-order armchair slower than buying from stock?

There is no stock and no warehouse of identical chairs. Making each chair to order means you choose the fabric and we build the chair around it, but it does mean a wait.

Planning around a date

If you are furnishing a new home or working to a deadline, order early and allow the full 10–12 weeks. Get in touch if you would like to talk through timings before you order.
